Question by kbatteiger: Question about summer camps for teens with behavioral disorders?
I have a teen girl who is 15 and in March she was diagnosed with ODD or Oppositional Difiance Disorder and a Mood Disorder NOS (not otherwise specified). I thought that sending her to a summer camp specially for childern with these types of behavioral problems would be good for her. Could anyone tell me of some camps in Kentucky or in the surrounding states. I was wanting to send her to a camp that is all summer long. If I were to send her to a day camp then when i brought her home she would just sneak out that night so i wouldn't be able to bring her back to the camp. So, I would really need a camp that specializes in behavioral disorders and in a "traditional camp" (all summer long).
i think a military/boot camp will be my second choice.

I also forgot to put that i really need one that is cheap.

Newsmax
Rasmussen Poll: Obama's Popularity Plunging

Tuesday, June 30, 2009 7:27 PM
By: Jim Meyers

The latest Rasmussen daily tracking poll shows that President Barack Obama for the first time has a negative approval index — more Americans disapprove of his job performance than approve.
In an exclusive Newsmax interview, pollster Scott Rasmussen also disclosed that, if the economy does not improve over the next year, Obama's numbers will deteriorate even further — and Democrats will suffer in 2010.
Rasmussen is founder and CEO of Rasmussen Reports and co-founder of the sports network ESPN. He has been an independent public opinion pollster for over a decade, and most major news organizations cite his reports.
Newsmax.TV's Ashley Martella asked Rasmussen for an overview of the latest tracking poll.
"The raw numbers are pretty straightforward — 31 percent of Americans strongly approve of the way Barack Obama is handling his job, 33 percent strongly disapprove," Rasmussen said.
"Before the last week we never had a circumstance where the number who disapprove outweigh the number who approve. So we're in new territory. Right now the approval index, at minus two, is as low as it's been.
"What we've seen in the last month is a growing number of people who strongly disapprove, and we're seeing it at a time when the president's honeymoon is coming to an end and people are beginning to look at the policies that he's promoting."
The closeness of the approve/disapprove numbers are "yet another indicator of how evenly divided our nation is," he added.
On specific issues, Rasmussen disclosed:
"When we talk about healthcare reform and the proposal the president is talking about, the country is fairly evenly divided. But those who have strong opinions tend to oppose the plan more than support it.
"On the cap-and-trade legislation [to reduce carbon emissions], 42 percent believe it's going to hurt the economy. Only 19 percent believe it's going to help.
"The takeover of General Motors is strongly opposed.
"Right now those things are weighing the president down. What's going to tell over the next year is how the economy performs. If a year from today, GM is doing great and throwing off profits and getting the taxpayers their money back, people will say we were wrong, the president was right, and it's great for him. But if GM is back asking for more bailouts, the president's numbers will be substantially weaker than they are today . . .
"If the economy responds negatively over the next year, it is going to hurt the Democrats in 2010.
"What the passage of legislation will actually do is bring ownership of the economy and economic performance more and more into Barack Obama's camp.
"Just over a month ago, 62 percent of Americans said that no matter what's happened in the last six months, George Bush is still more to blame for the economic mess than Barack Obama. That number fell to 54 percent, and the more of Obama's policies that are put in place, the more the blame or perhaps the credit will shift to the current president."
Rasmussen also found:
The country is evenly split between those who approve of the way Obama has responded to the disputed elections in Iran and the repression of demonstrations that followed, and those who disapprove and believe he has not been aggressive enough.
More Americans strongly oppose Obama's healthcare plan than strongly support it.
About 30 percent of Americans favor a single-payer healthcare system, but a majority will oppose it.
"Americans like the idea of healthcare reform in theory, in the abstract," Rasmussen said.
"Only 35 percent think this system is in good or excellent shape. But people like the coverage they get by themselves. Among the insured, 70 percent say their own coverage is good or excellent. Among all Americans, only 8 percent say their coverage is poor."

Question by anna: My little sister is driving me INSANE?
Okay, I am 16 and she's 12 so there's a bit of an age difference but it's not huge. She's extremely annoying but I've been making a real effort to be nice to her lately. Today for example, I took her to the park when she wanted to go, then to Sonic and when she wanted to get ice cream, I took her there too. She was very pleasant then, and we both were laughing and have a good time.

Then once at home again, she started to get annoying (i.e singing loudly in my face while I was trying to complete an online ACT practice test) so I said, "Kristy, you're starting to irritate me. Please stop." I said in just like that in a polite of tone as I can manage. She doesn't stop. So when I finally lost my cool and yelled at her, she said "Okay Ms. Church Camp Counselor" (referring to the fact that I'm working at a church camp this summer) "I don't think they like people to put on an act." THAT made me mad. I was trying my hardest to be nice to her and she pushed me over the edge.

Besides that, she'll always ask "What are your plans today?" and always wants to know exactly what I'm doing. I've tried to talk about this to my mom but she just laughs it off. What should I do? I'm at the end of my rope!

Answer by Maci Little
Wow that was very nice of you i understand you must be very frustarated.... but let me tell you something.... you sister she looks up to you... i can tell from what you wrote. the fact that you said she annoys you makes me think that she doesn't get enough attention from parents and other people. If i were you i would sit her down and tell her how you feel... communication is key dudee and a brother/sister is a really good thing to be close with when your older (im only 14 but... lol) so tell her you love her and that sometimes she really gets under your skin.... when she is singing in your face maybe start singing in her face and laugh it off and then say your gonna go to your room to concentrate. just remember i know its easy to get mad and yell... but yelling only hurts you and her.... instead tell her nicely. your a really nice brother and i know it must be hard but stick in there bud! good lucky!

Question by Clare: What do you think of this excerpt from a book I'm writing?
I walk into the cramped, crowded and bright cabin and I'm immediately intoxicated with the smell of cheap perfume and bug spray. The peppy cries of camp cheers and fake smiles of camp counselors are giving me a headache. I hold my heavy Adidas sports bag over my shoulder and uncomfortably shift from foot to foot, not wanting to look up. I finally tilt my head upwards and see a dorky looking Girl with a bad perm and way too many friendship bracelets staring at me.

"Hi! My name is Jenny. I'm your camp counselor!" She gushes, flashing me a crooked smile. She seems nice enough, but fake. I can see right through people, and she is being nice because she has to be, not because she necessarily wants to be.

"Oh, um, hi. My name is Juliana." I unsurely murmur, and I'm getting butterflies. Not the happy kind you get when you're about to go on stage during your school play or when you see the cute guy you like, the nauseating kind you get when you're about to do something you dont want to do.

"That's great! Why don't you go find a bunk bed. They're going fast so choose one asap! Then we're going to go do team building activities and play soccer." Jenny says, flashing me another one of her ugly-toothed grins. I get a tinge of guilt for being shallow, but I ignore it. I'm not here because I want to be, so why should I be happy about it?

Ignoring Jenny, I put my bag on a lower bunk, and start to unpack. Everyone seems to be cliquing up except for me, exchaning how-was-your-years and i'm-so-excited-to-play-volleyball-and-swim-in-the-lakes. Maybe a few nice girls will come along and we can sit together at the mess hall and have our own inside jokes. But for now, I'm lonely Juliana, The girl sitting on a bottom bunk all alone.

When does camp end?

Just watched it a couple hours ago at movie night at my youth ministry in church. I couldn't believe what I was watching. You know, when I decided to devote my life to Christ about a year ago, I never intended to be like that.

So, PLEASE tell me I'm not the only christ-follower who didn't like that movie.
Naomi- Preaching the word of god is one thing, brainwashing is another. This was brainwashing.

Answer by de ƒåç†ø atheist
You're not, relax.
Contemporary Christianity is way different than Evangelical Christianity.
Plus, gaining an education via universities or even through the net (dangerous!) is helpful.

Question by The Last Unicorn: Have you seen "Jesus Camp"?
Please, people from all religions(and/or lack there of) what did you think of this documentary. I am an atheist, and I was pretty angered by some of things I saw, though not shocked. And if you haven't seen it, please do so! I want to know a million things, but one thing off the top of my head: How can you honestly say the youth (not just youth but it starts here) of the world is not brainwashed into believing religion? Religion is harmful to the world in so many ways, I wish there were a way to completely rid of it.

Question by Jennie: I walked in on my dad.....Should I tell my mom?
A couple of weeks ago I walked in on my dad and his "friend" smack dead in the middle of our living room on the couch. She was pretty much going down on him... luckily for me, it was dark so I didn't really see anything. To make the situation entirely worse, my dad tried to tell me that it wasn't what it looked like. Like there was a "logical" explanation for this woman to be on her knees in the middle of our dark living room half naked. Then he goes on to tell me that it was a one time thing, it just happened and that he and the woman were "just friends". (Yeah, and I'm the queen of England)
My dad obviously thinks I'm an imbecile, because her overnight bag was near the front door. I told my dad that I had a few friends waiting for me in the car and asked him if I should go give them all "blowjobs", he didn't know how to respond to that so I left.

My mom was out of town on a "spa trip" which pretty much consists of a few nearly anorexic middle aged women sitting around getting facials, talking about how fat they are and how much they hate their husbands. They sent my two younger siblings away to "bible camp" even though I don't think either of my parents have ever touched a bible in their lives. I was taking a weekend trip with my friends to go visit a friend @ UCSD, but I forgot something at home, which is why I went back to my house. My mom had actually told me that I couldn't go, but the moment she left my dad said that I could.

Neither of my parents win any awards when it comes to their parenting skills. Their idea of "parenting" consists of a nanny that doesn't speak English ( whom I happen to like more than either of my parents + I now speak fluent Spanglish), a restaurant directory, lots of sports/activities to keep us busy ( which of course the nanny takes us to), electronic devices to keep us busy at home and charge cards. My 7 year old sister is a complete diva who throws full on hissy fits, kicking and screaming at the top of her lungs if she isn't wearing something pink or by "Juicy Couture". She orders our nanny to call her "princess" and throws cell phones at her on a daily basis. My parents do nothing about it. I honestly wouldn't have been surprised if a bible camp counselor called and said that she "accidentally" drowned. My 5 year old brother is the exact opposite. He's a doll, but he's super quiet, probably because he feels neglected. Sometimes I wonder why my parents even bothered having children.

With that being said, I'm not sure if I should tell my mom about what happened. They're parenting skills have always been laughable, but now their marriage is pretty much a joke too. When she came back we all went out to dinner and my dad told me that he was considering trading my car in for a newer one, which I never even asked for and that he was considering letting me stay this a house off campus with my friends for college next year, which I did ask for. He's indirectly bribing me to keep my mouth shut!
I called my older brother for advice and he told me that he " doesn't give a flying F*ck about either of them" and if it were him he would "take the bribes and keep my mouth shut"....(Yes, I know. I have such a lovely family)

I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do. If I don't say anything I feel like I am somehow betraying my mom, but if I do then I'm betraying my dad.

My brother does have a valid point. Neither of them really cares about us so why should I care about them? I want to just pretend that nothing happened, take the new car and the off campus house for next year and start counting down the days until I leave for college....but then I feel bad about it because I actually do have a conscience.

What should I do? Do I tell? forget about it?.......

Best answer:

Answer by carvaz4611
Keep it to yourself, you might tell your dad it wasn't right doing it at home with the understanding that you don't approve no matter where he does it.
